Landry, D. (2007).   Skulduggery Pleasant. NY: HarperCollins. Stephanie's uncle, the famous author has died and left most of his belongings to Stephanie along with his house, all the royalties from his books. At his funeral, she notices a strange looking man and feels eerily connected with him but not afraid.  Her uncle's house has always been intriguing to her and she is looking forward to exploring it further.  Soon she has the chance due to a dangerous storm and flooding that keeps her mother away.  She is alone overnight and someone is demanding that she open the door and give her a key.  Stephanie doesn't understand what he is talking and becomes frightened, something is terribly wrong.  The man breaks down the door and attacks Stephanie.  Suddenly, Skulduggery Pleasant appears and fights off the man with unusual power.   Stephanie soon discovers a new underworld that her uncle was connected to and realizes that he didn't die of normal causes but was murdered.  She along with Skulduggery Pleasant, a detective, search for the true answers to what is really going on around them.  They are joined by a cast of diverse characters; some enemies and few friends from this parallel world.  Does Stephanie has magical powers like most she meets or is doomed to maintain her normal boring life? Skulduggery Pleasant is full of action, mystery and fights as Skulduggery Pleasant searches to find the answers to the mystery at hand.  He reluctantly includes Stephanie in his adventures but feels that she is peculiar and not just a normal girl.  Derek Landry is an author from Ireland where Skulduggery Pleasant is set, he has created a series based on this unique character.
